# GNSS Fundamentals

## **What is GNSS**

GNSS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System.

It is a general term used to describe any satellite constellation that provides positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services on a global or regional scale. GNSS allows a receiver on the ground to determine its location (latitude, longitude, altitude), speed, and precise time by processing signals from multiple satellites.

The most well-known GNSS systems include:

GPS (Global Positioning System, United States)

GLONASS (Russia)

Galileo (European Union)

BeiDou (China)

QZSS (Japan)

NavIC (India)

Together, these systems are widely used in applications such as navigation, surveying, aviation, shipping, agriculture, autonomous driving, and many scientific fields.
